Configuration Item

Configuraton Item (CI) is a part of the IT infrastructure that is either currently or eventually should be under Configuration Management. A CI

  • is required to deliver a function or service

  • can be independently identified

  • can be changed

  • is managed using Configuration Management processes

Further a CI may be related to one or more CIs and can have one or (usually) more attributes and has a status indicating its adoption.
